Situation on the ground
On the 3rd and 4th of May 2008, a massive cyclone hit southern Burma, devastating five administrative divisions, where a state of emergency was declared. It is the former capital Rangoon, the largest city in the country and of the regions of Irrawaddy, Pegu, Karen and Mon.
The official report states that there was more than 133,600 dead or missing and more than 2.4 million homeless.

The emergency cell of the Humanis NGOs Collective, with the association acting on the spot and in partnership with the Bas-Rhin's ADAPEI, which has generously offered its assistance to the Burmese people, by collecting equipment in its facilities for the Emergency Cell.

Why?
The opening of the Burmese borders to humanitarian workers should facilitate access to the affected populations. Therefore, the channels for the sending of equipment are secure.
The needs
The needs assessment by the teams on site has shown the need to provide food, medical care and equipment for people in shelters.
